What is the difference between RGB baselit & neopixel sabers
Neopixel and RGB Baselit, what's the deal?
KenJo sabers are available with various soundboard types. On the product page, you can see which soundboards are available for each specific saber.
Each soundboard offers a choice of colors and features various sound types. A baselit saber features a hollow blade and a powerful 12-watt light, while a neopixel sword features a super-bright 40-watt LED strip that allows you to display various blade styles and start-up styles. Depending on the soundboard you choose, this can be done through presets, or you can choose from a number of options yourself, or even fully customize the sound. Some KenJo Saber soundboards even include a handy Bluetooth app to control the lightsaber.

What is the difference between baselit and neopixel lightsabers?
Many lightsaber fans wonder what the difference is between a Neopixel lightsaber and an RGB baselit lightsaber.
Below we explain the different features of RGB and Neopixel soundboards so you can make the right choice.

RGB Baselit Lightsabers
Every KenJo Saber is equipped with an extra-powerful 12-watt RGB LED bulb and comes with a reinforced polycarbonate blade. The bulb is located under or inside the emitter, which is the upper portion of the handle. This bulb shines through the hollow, translucent blade from bottom to top. The blade is lined with light-amplifying foil on the inside. The tip also features a special reflector layer. Together, these elements ensure even light distribution across the entire blade.
The blade of an RGB baselit lightsaber is therefore very light. Lighter than a Neopixel version, an RGB baselit lightsaber is therefore even better suited for realistic dueling.
Premium RGB baselit soundboards offer a choice of colors and feature an extra-bright 12-watt lamp. This can be done with 10 preset colors or by slowly changing colors. This way, every conceivable color is available. In addition, the lightsaber has no fewer than 10 different sound types with varying volumes and a silent mode.
Each RGB Baselit lightsaber has the following features
- 10 sound types
- 11 colors
- Smooth swing
- Effects (flash on clash, blade lock, blaster deflect)
- Three volume settings (mute, soft, loud)

Different variants of Baselit
KenJo Sabers currently offers three different baselit variants:
- RGB baselit
- Premium RGB Baselit
- Premium RGB baselit X3
RGB Baselit
As described above.
Premium RGB Baselit
As described above, with added blade styles: Stable, Unstable, and Ghost. Music playback and motion control for power on and off, as well as some other features. See the manual for the specific premium RGB baselit board for all details and features. https://kenjosabers.nl/pages/handleidingen-kenjo-sabers-pagina
Premium RGB Baselit X3
Premium RGB Baselit X3 offers the same features as described for Premium RGB baselit with extra blade styles but is equipped with a baselit Xenopixel v3 board including a bluetooth module. This board makes the smooth swing many times better and it is also possible to use certain functions via motion control. All functions can easily be controlled with a mobile phone via the Xeno Configurator app. The app works on both Android and iOS. Premium RGB Baselit X3 is currently only available for most Legendary category sabers and a few Premium or Rare category sabers.
Neopixel Lightsabers
For those looking for a little something extra from their lightsaber, the Neopixel version is a good choice. The Neopixel lightsaber is illuminated differently than standard RGB baselit versions. Neopixel lightsabers feature a 40-watt LED strip integrated into the blade. This LED strip evenly illuminates the entire blade, not just the underside as with an RGB baselit model. The light intensity of the Neopixels is therefore much brighter, and the colors also stand out more.

Because the LED strip is integrated throughout the entire blade, this allows for more realistic functions. One of these functions quickly becomes apparent when the blade is illuminated. The blade lights up from the bottom, giving the illusion of the lightsaber actually extending.
Because the LED strip is integrated throughout the blade, it is heavier than the Premium RGB lightsabers. Furthermore, due to the sensitivity of the LED strip, the blade can break if struck or dueled too hard. Therefore, we advise against striking or dueling at full power with the Neopixel lightsabers.
Different variants of Neopixel
KenJo Sabers currently offers five different Neopixel variants:
- Standard Neopixel
- Premium Neopixel
- Premium Neopixel x3
- Supreme Neopixel
- Proffie 2.2 Neopixel
Standard Neopixel
The Standard Neopixel works almost exactly like an RGB Baselit saber. It's equipped with 16 different presets. Each preset combines a color, sound type, and blade style. It also features smooth swing and effects (flash on clash, blade lock, blaster deflection).
The advantage of the Standard Neopixel is the blade. As described above, this is equipped with a 40-watt LED strip.
Standard Neopixel sabers have only two sound modes: mute and sound on.
A standard Neopixel doesn't include an SD card. It's not possible to change startup styles, blade styles, or sound types.

Premium Neopixel
While the Standard Neopixel variant offers a more realistic look thanks to the upgraded blade, the Premium Neopixel soundboard offers many more possibilities and upgrades. This is because it features a Xenopixel v2 soundboard.
Firstly, the Premium Neopixel has a much better sensor and chipset compared to the RGB Baselit and Standard Neopixel. This significantly improves the smooth swing function, and the sound reacts significantly more realistically to movement. The sensor sensitivity is also relatively easy to adjust via the computer.
The improved electronics in a Premium Neopixel lightsaber also allow you to control it with motion instead of just the button. This allows you to turn the lightsaber on and off, change its color, play music, and change the sound type simply by moving your hand.
The Premium Neopixel soundboard has seven different blade styles. This allows you to fire the lightsaber in different ways. The seven blade styles are as follows:
- Steady, the sword blade burns evenly
- Pulse, the sword blade has a slow pulsating light effect
- Unstable, the sword blade pulsates
- Flame, the sword blade continuously glows stronger from bottom to top
- Rainbow, the sword blade has all the colors at once
- Candy, the sword blade has all the colors at once
- Cracked, the sword blade is smooth but flashes occasionally
In addition to the different blade styles, you can also choose between 10 different ways in which the sword is turned on.
- Standard
- Hunter
- Scavenger
- Phaser
- Warp
- Photon
- Stack
- Broken
- Blaster
- Ghost
The video below shows all the blade styles and startup styles mentioned:
The video below shows a large part of the different start-up styles:
The Premium Neopixel soundboard comes with a 16GB SD card. This card contains over 40 different sound types! You can add sounds and set background music, which can be activated using motion controls.
You can add your own sound types and music, and configure settings. This can be done using the included USB stick and SD card. The SD card contains the "SET" folder, which contains the "Config" file. This file allows you to configure the following settings, among others.
- On/off Toggle motion control functions on or off.
- Adjust the sensitivity of functions and the sensor.
- Adjust the length of the sword
- Adjust startup style timing
- Configure and compose font presets (standard combination of sound type, color, start-up style, blade style, and timing)
It's also possible to perform updates and take advantage of future new features such as additional blade and startup styles. Sabers always ship with the latest firmware, so updating the first six is unnecessary.
Last but certainly not least, the Premium Neopixel offers more effects than the RGB Baselit and the Standard Neopixel including:
- Blaster deflect precision
- Melt / Tip drag
- Blade lock precision
All in all, this makes the Premium Neopixel variant the most realistic, versatile, and plug-and-play lightsaber that requires no technical knowledge.

Premium Neopixel X3
Premium Neopixel X3 works exactly the same as the Premium Neopixel described above, but instead of the Xenopixel v2 board it is equipped with the Xenopixel v3 board including a bluetooth module, which makes all the various functions easily controllable via a mobile phone with the Xeno Configurator app. The app works on both Android and iOS. Premium Neopixel X3 is currently only available for most Legendary category sabers.
Supreme Neopixel
Supreme Neopixel offers the same features and superior smooth swing as described in Premium Neopixel. However, this version is equipped with the SN4 board including a Bluetooth module, allowing all the various functions to be controlled via a mobile phone app. Supreme Neopixel also offers extensive options in the app for configuring blade styles and startup styles. This is quite complex; instructional videos will be available soon on the online manual page. Supreme Neopixel is only available for sabers in the Epic Category.
Proffie 2.2
For the true lightsaber connoisseur who wants to fully customize every function, we offer the Proffie 2.2 Neopixel soundboard. This soundboard is fully customizable. Countless startup effects, blade styles, and sound and lighting effects can be found and downloaded on various forums. Those with a real knack for crafting can even record their own sounds and develop effects. Note that because the Proffie 2.2 soundboard is fully customizable, it does require some time, research, and computer skills to master. Plenty of tutorials can be found on various forums and YouTube.
