In Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, Luke Skywalker is introduced to the Jedi by a lightsaber that once belonged to his father. Besides this blue Skywalker weapon, we see the blue lightsaber of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the red lightsaber of Darth Vader. They are just a few designs, but their owners determine the future of the saga. This collection connects the classic Star Wars atmosphere with explanations about the characters, their weapons and matching KenJo Sabers models.

Short summary of A New Hope

Luke lives on Tatooine and dreams of a life outside his family's farm. When a message from Princess Leia arrives at him via R2-D2, he gets involved in the fight against the Empire. Obi-Wan Kenobi tells him about the Force and takes him on a rescue mission. Together with Han Solo and Chewbacca, Luke ends up on the Death Star. The escape costs him his new mentor, but gives the Rebels a chance to destroy the space station. Luke needs to learn to rely on something he just began to understand.

What lightsabers are in A New Hope?

The three most important lightsabers have a clear owner: Luke receives Anakin's old weapon, Obi-Wan carries his own Jedi lightsaber and Darth Vader uses his red Sith lightsaber. Luke does not yet fight a lightsaber duel with Vader in this film. His role as a beginner and pilot is very different from that in later films. His famous green lightsaber is not yet part of Episode IV.

Luke Skywalker: his father's blue lightsaber

For Luke, the handle is initially a tangible connection to a father he never knew. On board the Millennium Falcon he trains under Obi-Wan's guidance with a training remote. He learns not only to move with the weapon, but to observe without relying solely on his eyes. The sword marks the beginning of his training, not the end point.

View Saga as Luke Skywalker-inspired lightsaber. For the previous history of the Skywalker-weapon, you can also compare the Anakin-inspired Saga Royal Edition. These models refer to the same storyline, but different hilt versions have their own details. Notice the specific product photos in an Episode IV collection and not just the family name Skywalker.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: the old master behind the name Ben

Ben Kenobi turns out to be a surviving Jedi master who can tell Luke something about an almost vanished tradition. He uses his blue lightsaber when the situation so requires, but his most important contribution is his confidence in a next generation. On the Death Star he is again facing Darth Vader. By sacrificing himself he gives his companions the opportunity to escape.

Mark - Two is inspired by Obi-Wan Kenobi and provides a link to a display around the older Jedi. If you combine a Luke and Obi-Wan design, then you tell the story of teacher and student. That's a different approach to a collection around two opponents, even when both blades are blue in the film.

Which Sith is in A New Hope?

Darth Vader: the red lightsaber of the Empire

Darth Vader is the Sith who appears on screen and fights the duel with Obi-Wan. His black armor and red lightsaber form the opposite silhouette of the simple Jedi robes. In Episode IV, he is mainly the threatening figure who interrogates Leia and pursues the Rebels; his personal bond with Luke is still hidden from the young hero.

For that classic Vader look you can see Darth Renegade, a Darth Vader-inspired lightsaber. The Darth Vader helmet makes it possible to display the character itself alongside the handle. The emperor is mentioned in this movie, but does not appear as the second dueling Sith.

Stormtroopers and the appearance of Episode IV

The white armour of the stormtroopers is just as recognizable as the lightsabers of the main characters. A Storm Trooper helmet can therefore complement a collection around the Death Star without each object having to be a Jedi or Sith weapon. Stormtroopers are imperial soldiers; their helmet tells a different part of the film than a lightsaber hilt.

Frequently Asked Questions about A New Hope Lightsabers

Are the blue lightsabers of Luke and Obi-Wan the same?
