Who is Luke Skywalker (short story).

Luke Skywalker grows up as a simple farmer on the desert planet Tatooine, unaware that he has a strong connection to the Force. When he meets Obi-Wan Kenobi, he discovers his destiny as a Jedi. Through training, loss and difficult choices, Luke grows into a hero who chooses not hate, but hope and compassion, even toward his own father, Darth Vader.

His lightsabers mark this growth: first as an apprentice, later as a confident Jedi.

What lightsabers does Luke Skywalker use?

Luke Skywalker uses two lightsabers in the original trilogy in this order:

  1. The blue lightsaber - given to him by Obi-Wan Kenobi

  2. The green lightsaber - built by Luke himself

Below we explain this step by step, including the correct KenJo Sabers models.

πŸ”΅ The blue lightsaber from Luke Skywalker

Movies: A New Hope & The Empire Strikes Back

Luke's first lightsaber is the blue lightsaber given to him by Obi-Wan Kenobi. Obi-Wan explains that this weapon once belonged to Luke's father, Anakin Skywalker. With this lightsaber, Luke begins his Jedi training and takes his first steps into battle against the Empire.

This blue lightsaber symbolizes:

  • the beginning of Luke's Jedi journey

  • discovery of the Force

  • learning through experience and training

How does Luke lose his blue lightsaber on Bespin?

In Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, Luke travels to Cloud City on the gas planet Bespin to help his friends. There he faces Darth Vader. Luke has trained with Yoda, but he is not yet ready for this confrontation. During the duel, Vader cuts off his right hand. Luke also loses the blue lightsaber that Obi-Wan gave him.

The weapon does not turn green: Luke loses his father's lightsaber and later builds a different one. The blue saber eventually resurfaces with Maz Kanata and then passes to Rey. The same weapon connects the stories of Anakin, Luke and Rey.

🟒 The green lightsaber of Luke Skywalker

Movie: Return of the Jedi

After losing his blue lightsaber, Luke builds himself a new lightsaber. In Return of the Jedi, he appears with his iconic green lightsaber, immediately showing that he has grown into a mature and confident Jedi.

How does Luke build his green lightsaber?

After his loss on Bespin, Luke builds a replacement weapon with a green blade. Its hilt resembles Obi-Wan Kenobi's: a distinctive thin neck above the grip, with a wider emitter at the top. This is a new lightsaber, not the blue Skywalker saber with a different colour.

The final theatrical version of Return of the Jedi does not show its construction. In a deleted scene, Luke works on his new weapon with R2-D2 in a cave on Tatooine. This scene is an extra from the film's production, not part of the finished film. We then see the green blade in action during Han Solo's rescue at the Sarlacc: R2-D2 launches the concealed weapon to Luke.

The self-built weapon reflects Luke's growing independence. Its green colour does not prove that he has automatically attained the rank of Jedi Master.

This green lightsaber symbolizes:

  • independence

  • mastery of the Force.

  • Luke's growth into an independent Jedi

Why does Luke have a blue lightsaber again on Crait?

In Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, Luke appears before Kylo Ren on Crait with a blue lightsaber. That seems strange: hasn't he used his own green weapon since Return of the Jedi?

The explanation is that Luke is not physically on Crait. From Ahch-To, he projects himself through the Force onto the battlefield. The blue lightsaber we see is also part of that projection. Luke has not recovered the old weapon, and his green saber has not changed colour again.

His aim is to buy time. While Kylo Ren focuses on Luke, Leia and the surviving Resistance members have a chance to escape. The confrontation ends without a real lightsaber duel: Kylo's blade cannot strike the projection. This moment is about Luke's mastery of the Force, not a new physical lightsaber.

Why are Luke Skywalker's lightsabers so popular?

Luke's lightsabers are loved because they:

  • tell a clear hero's journey

  • symbolize hope and growth

  • are among the most recognizable lightsabers ever

This is why these sabers remain popular with Star Wars fans, cosplayers and collectors worldwide.
