Troubleshoot
If you are having problems with your KenJo Saber we would like to solve it for you. On this page we will answer the most common questions or complications. If the complication is not solved below, please contact us by e-mail and we will help you quickly!
note: To maintain warranty it is important that the electronics kit is never removed from the saber and also that the electronics kit itself is not unscrewed. Do not do this without explicit instructions from a KenJo Saber employee to preserve your warranty and avoid costs.
Did you lose the manual or find it difficult to understand all the functions properly? Please check the following page for the online manual and instructional videos: https: //kenjosabers.nl/pages/handleiding-kenjo-sabers
How do I assemble a KenJo Saber?
Remove the protective white or black cap from the bottom of the sword/blade. Slide the blade or plug into the handle until it meets the bulb. With a neopixel model, it is important to push down firmly enough so that the pins go in. Make sure the allen screws do not block the blade on the inside of the handle. Next, use the small allen screws and allen wrench provided to firmly clamp the blade into the handle. Of course, be careful not to turn the screws.
The sword is loose or wobbly.
It varies from saber to saber with how many screws they use to clamp the sword into the handle. It is important to push the sword as deep as possible into the handle (against the lamp or neopixel pins) before tightening the screws. With a neopixel model, be careful to really push it down enough so that the screws don't hit the circuit board. These can be safely tightened firmly. Does your sword seem to wobble? Then tighten your screws more firmly to see if this fixes the problem. Make sure that you do not damage the screw thread. It can also help to clamp the sword firmly against the long side of the emitter, not only downwards, but also while screwing the screws. This ensures that there is as little room for movement as possible.
The lightsaber does not make a sound.
Perhaps the lightsaber is in silent/mute mode. KenJo Sabers have two different volumes and a silent/mute mode. To change the volume, the saber must be in standby mode. Press and hold the button until the light flashes once, then release. There will now be a voice confirmation. Repeat this process to switch between volume and mute modes.
The Lightsaber does not turn on, gives poor or soft light or does not give clash & blaster sounds.
There is a good chance the battery is low or completely dead. Turn the lightsaber off completely (not standby) and plug it into the charger. Allow the lightsaber to fully charge for at least 4 hours.
Be sure to use an appropriate charger. Often a modern phone charging pad will work just fine. Do not use chargers from other companies or other devices.
Do you have a premium Neopixel saber? Make sure your saber is not in Ghostblade, or Blaster blade mode.
The neopixel sword blade is half light or bad light or shows other glitches
First check that your saber is not in Ghostblade, or Blaster blade mode. If this is not the case then the sword blade is almost certainly not mounted properly.
Possibly you mounted the sword blade when the saber was already on? This can cause problems. Make sure you turn the saber off completely and then mount the sword blade while the saber is still off according to the instructions as described in 'how to assemble a KenJo Saber'. Charge the saber and turn it back on.
It is possible that the sword blade is not making sufficiently good contact with the pins. It is important during assembly to push the sword blade down sufficiently (you can feel the pins move down slightly) before tightening.
The tip drag / melt effect does not work.
By default, the tip drag is set to 92cm. The length of your blade is adjustable on premium neopixel (xenopixel) sabers. Remove the SD card from the saber and insert it into the computer using the SD card reader. Open the folder "set" and then open the "config" file to change the "pixelnumber". 92cm = 133, 82cm =122,
My saber does not have a light ring as described in the manual.
Most likely you have bought one of our legendary sabers. Many of these models have a custom button that is hidden from view so that the saber looks extra realistic. You can use whatever manual you have but the number of light flashes described are seconds.
Charging the lightsaber does not solve the problem.
In some cases, due to intensive use or other reasons, the connection between the plates and the battery may not be optimal. By opening the lightsaber the battery becomes visible. The battery can be removed from the lightsaber and put back after 30 seconds. Does this not solve the problem? Then the plates that clamp the battery can be carefully bent open. In this way the battery gets a better connection with the plates. Note: only remove the battery, the electronics kit itself should remain closed. Do you remove the electronics kit from the saber or do you disassemble the electronics kit? This will void the warranty.
The lightsaber appears to be charging, but fails after a few seconds or minutes after it is turned on. The lightsaber fails when moved or hit against something.
It is likely that the battery does not actually charge or does so very minimally. This is probably because the plates do not connect properly to the battery. By twisting open the lightsaber, the battery becomes visible. Remove the battery from the soundboard. Carefully bend both plates that hold the battery further open. So that the battery has a better connection to the plates. Place the battery back and turn the lightsaber back together (see also the video below). Then let the lightsaber charge for at least 4 hours before turning it on again. Do not interrupt the 4-hour charging procedure or turn on the lightsaber while charging.
Tip: Is the saber used for heavy dueling or does it fall out when you tap something with it, a small piece of tape over the battery can solve this problem.
The saber does not seem to be charging / the light ring does not flash.
Did you bend open the battery clips and does the saber not seem to charge continuously, for example because you do not see the light ring light up? It is possible that your battery is completely empty. This may cause the light ring not to turn on. Leave your saber on the charger for at least 4 hours. Do not interrupt the charging process and do not try to switch on the saber in between. Make sure that during this charging cycle you do not leave the saber unattended and check that the saber does not become hot.
Do you have a saber with a proffi board? Then the led ring will not light during the charging cycle. You can program this yourself.
I smell a burning odor.
Did the above instructions not solve your specific problem and do you smell a burning odor when you open the unit? It is possible that the wrong charger was used and something has burned out. Please remove the battery from the saber as soon as possible and contact us.
I followed these instructions and my lightsaber is still not working:
Did the above instructions not solve your specific problem? Then please contact us by email at info@kenjosabers.nl. Always include the following points in your email:
- The order number (we can't help without it).
- Which saber and which soundboard it concerns.
- Whether the above instructions have already been carried out.
- Describe the problem as clearly as possible.
- Preferably include a video so we can immediately see what the problem is.
We will then help you as soon as possible.
